Description
Most people will be familiar with the concept of the memory game Simon. The Spoonbill version is very much a computer rendition of the original Milton Bradley electronic hand held game that became such a craze in the late 1970's and early 1980's.
Even if you haven't played the original Simon, the principle is simple, (no pun intended). The game plays one of four tones, which you need to repeat. It then plays the first tone and adds a second which you also need to repeat. next time a third tone is added to the sequence and so on until you miss a tone and the game ends.
The Spoonbill game represents something very close to the tones of the original electronic game, and (for visually impaired players), even the four coloured buttons set in a circle, red, green, blue and yellow, that made up the game so is perfect for a nostalgia trip.
The arrow keys are used to play the actual tones, and you can set an option to have Sapi speak the arrows as well as have the tones played, or just go by spoken arrows without the tones if you prefer.
The major new thing the Spoonbill game brings to the table however is scoring and rounds. For each successive tone in a sequence you get right, you earn an additional point, the first earning you one, the second 3, the third 6 etc. Also, the game is not played just once but in a sequence of rounds. Every time you miss a note, rather than getting an instant game over, you have another round to see if you can then memorize a longer sequence than previously. The game only ends when you first fail a sequence, and then fail a shorter sequence than the previous one, thus requiring not only good memory, but a consistently good memory.
